BREVARD COUNTY YOUTH RECEIVES NATIONAL Award

Cocoa- Kimberly Lindsey, a youth volunteer for Crosswinds Youth Services, has received the national award as the outstanding youth volunteer in the nation for the YMCA National Safe Place program. Kimberly received the national  Youth Volunteer “Tomorrow’s Promise Youth” from YMCA National Safe Place recently at their conference. Kimberly was nominated because of dedicated volunteerism to Crosswinds.  She has volunteered for three years giving freely over 100 hours in many capacities throughout the organization.

Ms. Lindsey’s most recent volunteer position was with Project Safe Place.  Last summer, she gave her time to volunteer making site visits to over 100 Safe Place locations throughout Brevard County.  This entailed making appointments and talking with managers, determining if each site needed training and updating Safe Place materials.  This was an extremely important assignment that she completed in a professional manner.  “I’m proud to make Brevard County a safer place for teens,” said Ms. Lindsey.

Kimberly is a Melbourne resident, and has recently graduated from Holy Trinity Academy, and is currently a freshman at Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina on a softball scholarship.  She plans on studying both psychology and mass communications.

“Ms. Lindsey is a dependable, caring, enthusiastic, and has the drive to learn new things.  We are thrilled to have such a wonderful dynamic young person volunteer with our organization and for our community,” said Misty Campbell, Vice President of Community Relations.  Crosswinds operates Project Safe Place in Brevard County, which is part of a national program offering immediate help to children and teens who have run away, are homeless, on the streets, in an unsafe situation, or just alone or afraid.  If you need information, please call 452-0800.
