JOB TITLE:  Mentor

 

JOB SUMMARY:  To serve as a role model to youth ages 12-17.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  Be a caring adult that can make a positive contribution in the life of a youth.

¨      Maintains contact with assigned youth at least twice a month for at least (6) months.

¨      Be a trusted friend.

¨      Be a good listener.

¨      Uphold client confidentiality at all times.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:   Honesty, Dependability, Understanding. Be a good role model.  Non-judgmental.  Able to maintain confidentiality.  Open to supervision and feedback.  Good listening skills.  Ability to work with youth in any academic area from 6th grade through high school.  Able to work with youth individually or in a group.  Complete and pass a background screening.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and converse with others freely.  Good communication and organizational skills.  Ability to assimilate information from a printed page. 

 

Number of Volunteers Needed:  As many as possible

 

Minimum Time Commitment:  One hour twice a month for at least (6) months.  Must be able to attend orientation and training provided by Crosswinds.
